A Newsy Letter About The New York Times X Snackable Bakes, Chocolate Gingerbread Cake, Yule Logs, And More . . .
Hello! Merry merry and happy happy to all. I hope everyone has been celebrating up a storm and eating a plethora of delicious things. I just spent a week in Copenhagen with my family and am pleased to report that we consumed many scrumptious items, both savory and sweet.
And I am also very pleased to report (like very) that Snackable Bakes was named One of the Best Cookbooks of the Year by none other than the New York Times! I was beyond thrilled when I learned the news and have been literally pinching myself for the last two weeks every time I remember (which is literally all the time so, yes, the pinching is getting a little annoying).
Learning that Snackable Bakes had made the list could not have come at a better moment, as I was feeling so despondent about the book still being sold out on Amazon, as well as just generally despondent about it not receiving the love I had hoped would be piled upon it around the holidays and then, well, wow. All complaining and negative thinking and feeling sorry for oneself was put on hold for the foreseeable future, thank you very much. Also, how about this cute little illustration of me that was just hanging out on the pages of the New York Times when the best cookbooks list made its way into the print edition of the paper? I mean adorbs, right?
And on the crazy off-chance you’d been waiting to see if Snackable Bakes made the Times’ list before purchasing it, you can find it here, here and here (you’re welcome).
But enough about Snackable Bakes being one of the best cookbooks of 2022, how about a recipe for an easy chocolate gingerbread snacking cake with a sour cream whipped cream? I love the combo of chocolate and ginger, particularly in cake form, and the sour cream whipped cream is just the tastiest, tangiest and creamiest of perfect additions.
If you are not feeling like gingerbread and only have eyes (and a stomach) for chocolate, what about making a Yule log? Believe it or not the cake itself is not only easy-peasy to assemble (as my recipe doesn’t require that you separate any eggs and easy-peasy is my middle name, in case you forgot) but assembling the cake into a “log” and decorating it as such, also could not be easier – and this is coming from one of the least crafty peeps on the planet – I mean, truly: decorating is not my forte and yet I decorated the below log and it doesn’t look half bad, if I do say so myself. Maybe your NYE celebration needs a yule log I guess is all I’m saying.
Alrighty then, one last thing: the final episode of my Radio Cherry Bombe podcast, She’s My Cherry Pie dropped, and I chat all things cookies with Sarah Kieffer – please give it a listen. Hoping that is enough news and more than enough recipes to keep you busy over the next two weeks and I will see you on the other side.
