A newsy letter all about caramel popcorn, banana pud, and cornbread . . .
Hello peeps. Although I’m inclined to tell you about the weather here in Brooklyn, NY – just as kind of a newsy-letter opener, to break the ice, etc. – I am resisting for fear of turning into my mother (hi mom!), who likes to tell me about the weather whenever we speak. So, instead of weather-talk, how about easy-peasy recipe talk? About a week ago, my second recipe for Bon Appetit was published (yay!) and it’s a winner – super simple caramel corn. The recipe could not be easier (ie: it does not require a candy thermometer) and although you do need to bake the corn in a low oven for about an hour after you assemble it, trust me: this recipe still falls into the easy-peasy category. In fact, I wrote it for BA’s “It’s That Simple” column, so if you don’t want to take my word for it, please take theirs
And while we’re chatting Bon App x me, have you tried my banana pudding? It’s a recipe I developed for them last summer and it is all that and then some – but wait: are you okay with banana pudding in the winter? I mean it doesn’t really scream warm weather to me, but maybe it does to you? Hmm . . . and shoot: I’m back discussing the weather and I’m only in the second paragraph of this here letter – maybe my mom is onto something …
This weekend we’re hosting some friends for a night or two, and I’m going to make my epically delish honey-butter glazed cornbread. And – you guessed it – it is super easy (I mean I guess all cornbread is??). And also, for the record, the honey-butter is literally the stuff of dreams. It’s kind of my attempt at replicating the cornbread at one of my fave neighborhood joints, Hometown Barbecue and I think I’ve succeeded (ish).
