Hello, peeps. I hope this late April letter finds you well. It finds me, in case you were wondering, extremely excited because my new easy-peasy savory baking book is now available for PRE-ORDER! The book is called Salty, Cheesy, Herby Crispy Snackable Bakes and is the savory little sister of Snackable Bakes. And as such it is a book full of savory recipes (not sweet!) with short ingredient lists (of items already in your pantry) that can be assembled in 20 minutes or less (and often less) with nothing more than a bowl and a whisk (or a spatula). Yes, the book is very one-bowl-ish and yes everything is delicious. Please consider pre-ordering it and it will arrive on its pub date: September 24th (so cool, right?). This is the cover:
What do you think?? We originally thought that the cover should look like the one from Snackable Bakes, in which lots and lots of baked goods are pictured, but the team ended up falling in love with this photo of my Salami, Brie and Figgy Mini Pies. I was on the fence, but just for a sec, as I really want people to understand that this is NOT an appetizer or hor’s d'oeuvres book or even a snack book (and I briefly worried this photo would lead readers to think that). Instead Salty Cheesy is a book that you can use to make breakfast, lunch AND dinner . . . as well as snacky things for before a meal (read: apps) or really, whenever you’re feeling peckish. And with an inviting purple cover such as this, featuring a bake that is indeed salty, cheesy, herby (there’s thyme in the mini pies) and crispy, I am pretty sure interested readers (perhaps you are one?) will think to themselves, “I wonder what else is in there besides those adorable little cuties?”
And what will they find when they take a peek inside its pages, you might ask? Well, there’s a savory muffin and biscuit and scone chapter (and yes, you’ll want to make the hot pepper jelly and cream cheese muffins stat); there’s a chapter of “sliceables” (think loaf cakes and savory snacking “cakes” - and think easy-peasy soda-bread focaccia)); there’s a toasty handheld chapter (filled with hand-pies, and the like - and where you’ll find the aforementioned cover-girl mini pies); there’s a no-knead bread chapter (please make my cheesiest pepper twirl bread); a chapter of bakes for brunch, lunch and dinner (creamed greens pie will soon be on on rotation in your house, just sayin’); a savory cookie and cracker chapter (fire crackers anyone?) and a snack chapter (natch - with a recipe for some miso garlic butter Chex mix (you’re welcome)). And everything is easy (but I think you knew that).
I would love to answer any and ALL questions you might have about the book - so please know that I am all ears, if you’ve got a query or two. For instance, are you wondering why pre-orders are so important? I mean I know it’s weird: the idea that I am asking you to purchase a book that you cannot hold in your hot (and cute) little hands til late September. But here’s the thing: when book retailers see a book has been preordered, they stock more copies of it on their shelves - in other words, pre-orders lead to more books - in more stores - more of the time - and this is good for both authors and readers. Also, and this is SUPER important, there will be loads o’ fab perks for those that pre-order (so save your proof of purchase!!).
